Siddharth College of Law has contributed tremendously in creating many legal luminaries of national repute. Some of the students and teachers of this College have become the Judges of High Courts and Supreme Court even enumerable Advocates practicing at all levels of courts in India.
In order to provide legal education to the poor and unprivileged class of the society, so that they may have adequate representation in the field law and judiciary the "Siddharth College of Law" was started in June 1956. This year Siddharth College of Law is celebrating its 54th year. During the past many years, the college has offered a tribute to its founder Dr. Ambedkar by producing a numerable scholars and legal luminaries of national repute. In its journey, the college has stood the trials and tribulations that time threw in its path, has emerged out with glory and is marching on ahead with a confidence.
Free India's first Law Minister and one of the chief architects of the Constitution, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, established the People's Education Society in 1945. Under this Society, a Law College was founded in the heart of Mumbai, named in honour of Lord Siddharth, and styled as "Siddharth College of Law" in the year 1956.
Looking back over the decades, one can appreciate the immeasurable role this pioneering institution has played in shaping the judicial, political, social, and historical landscape of India. The legal luminaries who have walked through its portals continue to influence society even today.
Great personalities such as Justice P. B. Sawant (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India); Justice M. C. Chagla (the first Indian Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court); Shri P. M. Sayeed (Former Speaker of Lok Sabha and Cabinet Minister); Shri Manohar Joshi (Former Speaker of Lok Sabha and Chief Minister of Maharashtra); Shri B. Shankaranand (Former Central Cabinet Minister); Shri Motilal Setalvad (the first Attorney General of Independent India); N. A. Palkhivala, and many other eminent personalities have left behind an inspiring legacy for generations to come.
